Great Expectations (summary) Summary The novel, Great Expectations, presents the story of a younker boy growing up and becoming a gentleman. He must learn to appreciate people for who they are, not purify out them for who they arent. Nicknamed berth, Philip Pirrip, the main character, goes through many changes in his personality, as he is influenced by various people. Pip experiences tough generation as a boy and a juvenile man, provided at the end he has become a fine, morale young man. The novel starts out with Pip feeding an escapee from jail.
